I have only explained my intentions to read and follow The 4 Hour Body plan to a few people, and I have run into the same few questions.
- Why are you doing this?
- Why are you trying to lose weight?
- Why are you reading a giant textbook?
I suppose the exercise science degree in me has awakened from hibernation. Perhaps this little experiment will help keep my mind off of the fact that I am not actually using my degree at all.
Essentially The 4 Hour Body (4HB) is a program consisting of things similar to other health plans. There is a nutrition component and an exercise component (but far less that anything else I have ever seen). The overall idea sounds the same as any other health plan you have already heard of, but the 4HB throws in some crazy ideas like cold therapy. i.e. cold showers and ice baths, yay! I have started reading he book and so far, it is really interesting. Aside from the fact that the author threw in some totally unnecessary chapters on sex, which reveal that he thinks he is God’s gift to women, I can dig the rest of the info.
I have always been a relatively active and healthy person, but I rarely give any thought to the food I shove in my mouth. For the most part, I am happy with how I feel and look–so this is not about losing weight. The main reason I am doing this is because I know I can feel and look better. If I make a few conscious (and a few crazy) adjustments, perhaps I won’t get headaches 3-4 times a week. Maybe I won’t crave soda like it is the lifeblood that sustains my existence.
As the author of the 4HB puts it, “Maybe you will live to see your abs.”
